  1. You have done well with three difficult subjects in any medium.. dark sky, straight lines, reflections. Water colour is transparent, yet you are using it in an opaque way, like poster paint. Maybe try a very large brush, wet the sea or sky area first, then just touch colours into the wet and let them spread naturally. Then dry with hair dryer, then do it again with slightly different hues. This way you will build up interesting shades of dark that are not flat.

  2. Thanks Shirl. I have these pots of bright water colour paint that requires enormous discipline (of me) not to use it like poster. I think I regress. I should start thinking about thinking about oil, and in the meantime buy a hair-dryer - something I haven't needed for a decade. sigh....
