Pastel, 40 x 28cm. Found my pastels. Found a prepared board. Then struggled to choose a subject. This was a snap I took inside a derelict monastery in Tibet in 2008. I loved the little bird, and the tell-tale straw from something behind the sign.
This is an interesting semi-abstract composition, with the only clue to space being the perspective of the timber at the top. I'm not sure about the colour coverage with pastels... they allow for a lot of the background colour to show through, so maybe starting with a colour behind will give more 'punch' to the marks. Maybe coloured Conte paper?
Thanks Shirl. I know what you mean with coverage. I can do it better with more time and care, but using coloured paper would help. I prefer 300gm though and that is expensive in colour if you can find it. I could aways do a colour gesso onto white which means more prep time. This painting a day is demanding!
